League History

The Pottstown Area APBA League finds its beginnings dating back to 1987, and the first floor basement of 1196 Laurelwood Road in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.  From the first draft, with the top 4 players at each position being shuffled upside down and handed out, to the War Room at the Pottstown Holiday Inn, to computerization and live streaming, the PAAL has undergone enormous changes in the past 30+ years.

Our humble beginnings can be traced to the Grandfather of APBA, Joe Interrante.  With his guidance, youngsters from around the neighborhood gathered their teams and began playing a game that is still loved by most today.  Joe, his sons David and Richard, and their friend Scott Bacallao started the league all those years ago.  Along the way word of the game spread, and the reach of the league brought more and more new faces; some have come and gone; many are still here.  Through it all, the fun of getting together with your friends and playing APBA remains.

Who can forget the moments of dice and rollers flying across the room, tables being tossed and thrown to reach your opponents throat, neighbors screaming at you for playing "yahtzee" 'til all hours of the morning, the BOWL and the Bacallao almost dukin' it out at the draft, managers screaming about unfair advantages of seeing the cards, managers screaming about losing the #1 pick, being up 3 games to none and losing the series, the three best teams in league history all losing in the LCS, an 8 hour session of APBA being interupted by a trip to the Trappe or Ground Zero, Richard beng quiet for 5 minutes (oh wait that never happened), and finally the hours of screaming obscene names at each other during the draft.

Where would any of us be without this?

Through all these events the fun of the game has never changed.  While some teams haven't had the luck of the dice and some just have had no luck at all, we all remain because we love this game.
